Tahitian (Papua New Guinea) Vanilla Beans (Grade B)

Grade B Tahitian vanilla beans (also called extract beans) contain significantly less moisture and are less attractive. They are much smaller and contain many imperfections (splits and cracks), unlike our premium Grade A beans. Don't worry though, because the flavor isn’t in the appearance. These beans will work just fine in your homemade vanilla extract, but are not ideal for baking or cooking with. Tahitian vanilla aroma is flowery, fruity and anisic with a smooth flavor. They are often decribed as smelling like licorice, cherries, or wine.

Description

Tahitian Vanilla comes from the fruit of an orchid variety called Vanilla Tahitensis which is a completely different species than the Bourbon (Planifolia) varieties from Madagascar. Tahitian beans are more delicate than Bourbon beans with completely different flavor profile - they are flowery, fruity and anisic with a smooth flavor. Gourmet pastry chefs love to work with the Tahitian variety because of their sweet floral flavor.

  5. 19/20 Stars

by Nicholas van Nordheim on Apr 23, 2013

I gave my order 19 out of 20 because the beans were a little drier than I expected. I know I ordered the Grade B and inherently they will be more dry, but when I received the package there was air inside that had ballooned the package up and probably caused some minor drying. I believe there was some heat that had come into contact with the package. Overall, I am extremely pleased with your service and look forward to using more vanilla beans from your collection!

  14. Tahitian (Papua New Guinea) Vanilla Beans (Grade B)

by Johanna Bontrager on Feb 10, 2013

They were great! We were expecting about 130 beans we received at least 170! We ordered 2 packages but were able to return one because each package had way more than we expected. We used the beans to make vanilla extract for our wedding favors. They look great and I'm so excited to be able to give out such a quality product! Thanks!
  15. Great product

by Christina Martin on Feb 6, 2013

This is my 2nd time ordering from Beanilla. I was quite impressed with their customer service my 1st time around and couldn't wait to run out of vanilla beans so I could order more. Thanks for providing a great product at a reasonable price.
  16. Exelent

by Russell Banks on Feb 2, 2013

This the second time I've orderd from Beanilla. First time was for Grade A beans, they were very plump and moist, better than the last place I ordered from. The Grade B's not as good as Grade A, but they worked better than Grade A for extract because there cheaper. I will be ordering all my beans from Beanilla from now on. I also like that they come vacuum pact.
  17. What a find.

by Amy Tavano on Jan 26, 2013

After my carefully cared for, years in the making, homemade vanilla extract committed suicide in my kitchen; a quick Internet search led me to you. These "grade B" beans look and smell better than any grocery store bean I have ever purchased. Thanks for saving the day.
  18. great!!

  21. Wonderful.

by Emma Sovich on Dec 28, 2012

These beans are definitely floral, definitely rich, and most definitely distinct from the bourbon beans. Quick shipping, lots of beans, and quality packaging. These will make for great vanilla extract. Thanks!
  22. Very pleased

by Melissa Talamantes on Dec 26, 2012

Order these beans to make holiday gifts. They were such a great value. I used them to make vanilla infused sugar. Tastes great and won't break the bank!

Bought to make vanilla extract.....waiting for it to be ready....
  25. Great for the Price

by Anastasio Flores on Dec 15, 2012

Definitely grade b beans and most you have to double or triple up on, but great for extract which is what they're intended for. You do get 75 beans, if not more, but in reality with having to use more per recipe, your batch is really about 25-30 beans worth. Definitely worth it.
  26. excellent!

by Meredith Rubin on Dec 10, 2012

    excellent!
  27. Fantastic!

by Rachel Arwine on Dec 4, 2012

Even though these beans are advertised as "grade b" they are fantastic! Very moist and plump...perfect for my homemade vanilla extract! Fast shipping too :) thanks beanilla! I will definitely be shopping with you again!
  28. Great product

by Linda Colwell on Dec 4, 2012

Fast easy service. Product seems wonderful. Have not used much yet.
  29. great!

by sarah rounds on Nov 27, 2012

I bought these to make extract. They seem to be perfect so far. They came fast were packaged well and I actually got more beans than they said I would! Can't beat bonus beans!
  30. Great Beans!

by Katie Oldakowski on Nov 20, 2012

The shipping was very fast and it was packaged wonderfully! I am giving these away as Christmas gifts and it is making great Vanilla Extract as I type!
  31. Wonderful!

by Evanne Center on Nov 20, 2012

The beans were in excellent condition upon arrival. Using these to make home made vanilla extract for the Holidays - can't wait to see how the final product turns out!
  32. Good value

by Suzanne Luke on Nov 20, 2012

Grade B Tahitian beans smelled great, but they were less supple and thinner beans, thus making it harder to split the beans and remove the "caviar". I think the resulting vanilla will be very good, based on the aroma of the beans and the week-old extract, but I will buy the Grade A beans next time, because it is much easier and less time-consuming to do that. ( my first order was for the grade A bourbon beans).
  33. For Vanilla Extract

by Eric Stiles on Nov 20, 2012

I am 100% satisfied with the product. The cost of pure vanilla extract is sky high. Compared with paying $8.99 for a 2 oz. bottle at the supermarket, I am making 25 oz for less than $16.00. I will be making future purchases from Beanilla
  34. Great

by Victor Barr on Nov 20, 2012

    very moist and plump beans
  35. awesome - thanks!

by Emily Duke on Nov 13, 2012

I ordered these to make a case of 4 oz. vanilla extract bottles; really happy with the quality of the beans. Half a pound is about 75 beans (which is plenty for 24 4 oz. bottles) and I would say 15 of the full lot are true grade B - so a great deal for your money if you're not using them to bake.
  36. good beans

by Deborah Abell on Sep 23, 2012

Beans came in perfect shipping conditions, and are absolutely great for making extract!
  37. Great vanilla beans

by Randall Sower on Sep 19, 2012

May not be the best Tahitian beans, but really close!

  39. Good Beans

by Francine Johnson on Sep 15, 2012

I had been wanting to try making vanilla extract for ages. I thought I'd try your beans. It's only been a week (well, 6 days) but so far it looks good.

The only downside is that my research showed that Grade B beans were best because of the lower water content and this is the only Grade B bean you have.
  40. Better than Described

by Veronica Brown on Sep 15, 2012

I feel like I got a really great value with these. The majority of the beans were large, moist, and plump, not to mention incredibly fragrant. About 1 in 4 were smaller, drier or had cracks as described. I bought a batch of 25 and about 20 will go into making homemade extract. The five plumpest I might just use for baking after all.
  41. Perfect for extract

by Kimberly Kelly on Sep 13, 2012

Arrived quickly and just as stated... not the perfect bean for baking, but they are working wonderfully for my extract. You can follow our progress here:

making homemade vanilla extract as Christmas gifts - the beans were beautiful and fresh and smelled marvelous - won't know flavor until Dec. 1 - have no reason to believe they won't be excellent!
