Fleur de Sel ("Flower of Salt" in French) is hand-harvested sea salt that is formed at the surface of salt beds and collected by workers who scrape only the top layer of salt. Rich in minerals with superior flavor qualities, Fleur de Sel is one of the most expensive salts in the world. Our Fleur de Sel is collected off the coast of Brittany (France) and is combined with premium ground vanilla beans of Tahiti and Papua New Guinea.     I purchased this salt to give a more salty, vanilly flavor to my chocolate chip cookie dough, as I find the dough to be too bland. The contrast of the salty vanilla with the 60% chocolate chips is exquisite! I also sprinkle a very tiny amount of the vanilla salt on top of these and many other cookies and they are sublime! I have never had more compliments on my cookies and no one can put their finger on what is different. Try vanilla sables with this salt--to die for! I also add the vanilla powder and the crushed vanilla beans to my cookie recipes and to come sweet bread and cake recipes and I will never go without again!

    We all know this will be great on fudge but other uses well WOW, summarizes it but here we go...I tried it initially on a Round Steak and A Frozen Pork Loin. The Round Steak turned out quite uniquely good. The home run over the fence was the Frozen Pork Loin. We all know Salt melts ice therefore my summation was the salt in this would actually assist the flavor going into the meat by putting it on the meat frozen. The FIRST time I did this the plan was to smoke it however I ran out of time and simply baked it. On 1/4 of a Full Pork Loin I utilized an entire packing the Whole loin with it but heavily on top of the Fat Cap...SO TERRIFIC NOT ONE GUEST would allow me to put sauce on it!!! The second time it did make it to the smoker and I smoked it with Cherry and Apple woods then finished the cooking process on the grill at a low temp. How was it? OFF THE CHAIN TERRIFIC!!!! This WILL blow away any other way you have EVER cooked Pork Loin. Again apply to the loin Frozen and allow several hours to completely thaw before entering the oven or smoker. Totally INCREDIBLE. Made me wish I was the TESTING CHEF for Beanilla!!!!!!!!!!

    While I could probably duplicate this with a bottle of (cheaper) sea salt from the store and the vanilla beans I bought, it is a nice little luxury to have when baking. Adds a little oomph that regular old salt doesn't to cupcakes and cookies, and I'm looking forward to trying it on savory dishes too.

    This is an item I've held off purchasing for a few months as I only have one recipe that calls for it, and, unsure how much it improve the flavor, if it would worth it. However, since I was going all-out on my holiday baking and candy making, I decided to go for it. Now I feel silly that I waited so long to get this-- the fragrant and flavor is incredible. I'm so glad I picked this up!
