Description

Anise extract is obtained from both the leaves and the seeds of the spice known as star anise. It has a strong, slightly sweet licorice flavor due to the presence of an aromatic compound known as anethole, which is also found in fennel, tarragon and licorice itself. Anise extract is popular in baked goods from around the world, and is also sometimes used to flavor liquor and herbal liqueurs. In Mediterranean countries it is used to flavor apƩritifs such as Pernod, Anisette, Ouzo, Raki and Arak and in Latin America it is known as Aguardiente. In Central and Northern European countries, it is used in baking breads and cakes, and in Southeast Asia and India, it is used in curries, more predominantly with fish.

Reviewing: Pure Anise Extract

Customer Reviews

  1. 5

by Melanie Fowler on Dec 29, 2012

    Subtle. Not too strong
  2. Weak flavor

by Cassandra Shambaugh on Dec 28, 2012

Did not meet my expectations. I used what my recipe called for to meet the flavor needs, (I used for Pizzelles) and even after adding much more than called for, I still could not taste the extract.
  3. Excellent!

by Brian Lawler on Dec 28, 2012

I bought 8 ounces for the price of one. It's an excellent product, and, even with shipping costs, was much less expensive than the grocery store variety (when they have anise, which they seldom do).
  4. will let you know if I get a bear

by Neil Swan on Sep 1, 2012

using to lure bears around for hunting - smells excellent - hope it works
